Indigenous knowledge is rooted in the understandings of the world.   The culture of a people is dependent upon how they view the world in which they engage in. The identity of a people is shaped by our environment.  

Land-based curriculum is cultural science.  Indigenous scientific understandings are dynamic, complex, and yet, highly predictable and stable.  Though time immemorial, Indigenous peoples have developed a deep understanding of the world and universe. 

Land-based curriculum is taught with the purpose to connect the learner to the land.  The goal for land-based curriculum is for the learner to grow an understanding of the interconnected functions of the world. 

Land-based curriculum  may be taught at anytime, to anyone.  We are naturally surrounded by nature.  Learning about the world is timeless.  The sooner in life, a learner engages with the natural world, the deeper connections to all live develop.  

Land-Based curriculum is best taught in real life context.  It involves all human senses. 

Land-based curriculum may be taught anywhere.   The best place is outside in the elements of nature. However, today many of the elements may be learned indoors.  Whether it is outside or indoors, all human senses and understandings will guide learning.
